The 33-year-old “Nasty” singer dropped the new song on Thursday (September 10), along with a music video directed by Zac Wiesel.

“Pillow Fight” is one of two new songs released by Tinashe alongside “I’d Rather Be Alone,” and both tracks will be featured on her upcoming album Popstar, which arrives on September 25.

While “I’d Rather Be Alone” tackles the aftermath of a breakup, “Pillow Fight” finds Tinashe in a much more flirtatious mood.

So, what is “Pillow Fight” actually about?

What Is Tinashe’s “Pillow Fight” About?

Despite its playful title, “Pillow Fight” isn’t really about fighting with pillows.

The song finds Tinashe using wrestling and fighting imagery to describe an intense physical attraction, inviting someone back to bed while making it clear that she wants to take control.

According to a press release, the track is a “playful, flirtatious R&B anthem.”

Throughout the song, Tinashe plays with the double meaning of a “pillow fight,” singing about wanting to “tussle” and “wrestle” before turning the encounter more intimate.

The second verse keeps the metaphor going as Tinashe describes their encounter like multiple rounds of a fight, complete with adrenaline and oxytocin (also known as the “love hormone”), and one person eventually tapping out.

“Pillow Fight” will appear on Tinashe‘s upcoming album Popstar. The project also includes the previously released songs “Melatonin,” “Crash Out” and “Too Easy.”

The new music arrives as Tinashe prepares for another major career moment: she was also just announced as a special guest for Harry Styles‘ Together, Together Tour shows in Phoenix in April 2027.
