Zach Bryan made a notable wardrobe choice while performing at the Gillette Stadium on Friday night (October 2).

The country music star took the stage at the Foxborough, Mass. venue wearing a black T-shirt bearing the words “Free Palestine,” according to photos obtained by TMZ.

The timing and location are particularly headline-worthy as his shirt choice follows the recent controversy surrounding Macklemore, Ed Sheeran, and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

Zach is playing two shows at Gillette Stadium on October 2 and 3 as part of his With Heaven On Tour, with Gregory Alan Isakov and Gabriella Rose joining him as special guests.

Why is Zach Bryan’s shirt getting attention?

Just a few weeks earlier, Macklemore was removed as an opening act from the remaining U.S. dates of Ed‘s Loop Tour after making pro-Palestine comments while performing at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Macklemore later claimed that multiple venues objected to his continued involvement with the tour, specifically alleging that Robert, whose Kraft Group owns Gillette Stadium, was among those who didn’t want him performing at the venue.

Ed subsequently said that venues had told the tour they would pull upcoming shows if Macklemore remained on the bill. He also confirmed that he had spoken directly with Robert while attempting to find a resolution, while maintaining that the final decision to remove Macklemore was made by the tour promoter rather than himself.

Robert has also since confirmed he opposed Macklemore performing at Gillette Stadium and explained his reasoning.

Ed‘s scheduled September 25 and 26 shows at Gillette Stadium ultimately never took place, because both concerts were canceled due to severe weather warnings amid a powerful nor’easter.

Macklemore has since announced his own Free Palestine Tour, with proceeds going towards organizations supporting Palestinians. He revealed this week that the first three scheduled shows in Dublin, Paris, and London are sold out.

Now, just one week after Ed was originally scheduled to perform at the stadium, Zach has appeared on the same stage wearing the “Free Palestine” shirt.
