Wendi McLendon-Covey Disputes Jeff Garlin’s Account of His ‘Goldbergs’ Exit

Wendi McLendon-Covey is responding to recent comments made by Jeff Garlin regarding his behavior on the set of their ABC sitcom The Goldbergs.

For context, Jeff recently visited the Daily Beast‘s Obsessed podcast where he spoke about not being at his best during his time on the show, which he left in 2021 after being accused of inappropriate behavior.

During the podcast, he claimed he empathized with Wendi because he was “undiagnosed bipolar” at the time and was “miserable on the show.”

“And [Wendi] was always trying to tell me, ‘Hey, you’re really great on the show.’ I didn’t believe her. I just got to the point where I had to quit, and she was very resentful,” he claimed. He and Wendi played husband and wife on the show.

Jeff continued, “Being bipolar, I was either one of three things: dark, dark, dark, dark, didn’t talk and look at anyone; happy to the point of mania, never turning off my thing; or mean — really, really mean.”

A clip of the interview was shared on Instagram and Wendi responded to it in the comments, writing, “Huh.”

She followed up by disputing his claims.

“Let’s just say I remember things very differently, as does the crew, the other actors, the writers, and our executives,” she wrote in response to a commenter asking for her opinion.
