Saoirse Ronan is back on the red carpet for the first time since becoming a mom over a year ago!
The 32-year-old actress stepped out for the premiere of her directorial debut, the short film Paper Plane, during the 2026 Venice Film Festival on Thursday (September 10) in Venice, Italy.
Saoirse and her husband Jack Lowden got married in 2024 and news of their baby’s arrival broke exactly one year ago today.
What is Paper Plane about?
When a defiant young girl stages a silent protest, refusing to return home until the disruptive presence of her father is gone, her mother must decide whether to follow her or let her go.
Saoirse said in a statement, “Paper Plane is a love letter to a younger version of myself, and a younger version of my mother. I wanted to explore how a young mind tries to make sense of something beyond their control; how love is expressed in times of pain, and how self- preservation takes root when one has spent their life watching someone they love struggle to love themselves and others in a healthy way. The paper plane serves as a symbol of lost childhood and innocence, a need for connection between two people who love each other deeply but can’t find common ground.”
Jack is one of the frontrunners to land the role of James Bond in the next 007 movie.
Well, Saoirse wants to be a Bond villain!
“I want to go dark. I said that I wanted to be a Bond villain and I’m dead serious,” she told Empire.
She shared her specific vision during an interview with Vanity Fair back in 2024, revealing she wants to play someone who doesn’t just fall for Bond. Saoirse says she wants her villain to have her own agenda and present a genuine challenge.
“But that is what I do like about something like Bond in general, is that the characters are very interesting. And I do think there’s something kind of cool about having a female villain who wants to take him down and doesn’t just want to fall in love with him,” she said at the time.
