Robert Pattinson Reacts to Chris Hansen Criticism Over Playing Him in ‘Primetime’

Robert Pattinson is addressing Chris Hansen‘s recent criticism over the new movie Primetime.

If you didn’t know, the 40-year-old actor plays the famed To Catch a Predator host in A24’s new thriller flick.

The logline for the film is as follows: “In 2006, To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen sets out to make television history.” It is inspired by true events.

In a recent interview, Chris, now 66, criticized the movie for not consulting him during production and said that he wouldn’t have cast Rob to play him.

While promoting Primetime at the 2026 Venice Film Festival, Rob reacted to Chris’ criticism.

“Obviously, I hope he likes the movie,” Rob said, per Variety. “There’s something electrifying about him. I would hope the amount of inspiration his character has given a lot of people for years is some kind of compliment.”

Rob also shared his own thoughts on Chris.

“There’s something magnetic about his presence. I watched the show when I was younger and didn’t think about it,” he said. “There’s a strange alchemy—something he’s doing is the reason people are still talking about that show 20 years later. It’s not to do solely with the subject matter. It was something about the show that was groundbreaking, but then he’s someone centering it.”

“There’s something, even after watching literally thousands of hours of it, you can’t put your finger on it,” Rob added.

Primetime – which also stars Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher, Bokeem Woodbine and Phoebe Bridgers – will be released in theaters on September 25. Watch the trailer here!
