R.J. Decker is returning for a second season this fall!

The hit ABC crime drama will premiere on Tuesday, September 15 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, following Dancing With the Stars.

Inspired by Carl Hiaasen’s novel Double Whammy, and created by showrunner Rob Doherty, the show stars Scott Speedman as R.J. Decker, a former newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of South Florida.

The series follows him tackling cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife, his former cellmate turned confidant and a shadowy woman from his past.

What Can We Expect From R.J. Decker Season 2?

“I feel like as a series, our standalone cases are our bread and butter. I look forward to swiveling back to Carl Hiaasen-esque Floridian weirdness,” the showrunner told TV Insider of the upcoming season.

“That can be a little harder to pull off when things are more personal, and the stakes feel higher. So I think as we come into a second season, the goal is to start with something fun and strange and distinctly Floridian, while also tending to and picking through all of the fallout of what happened for R.J., Emi, and Victor at the end of the first season. So I think for all intents and purposes, R.J., the man and the investigator, is the same, but he has sort of a brand new mess laid out in front of him. He’ll continue to attack these cases that I hope are unique to our show, but he’ll also have to kind of tend to some cleanup in his personal life.”
