Porsha Williams Details Undergoing Emergency Partial Hysterectomy After Doctors Found 21 Uterine Fibroids | Just Jared

Porsha Williams is opening up about her health.
While appearing on CBS Mornings on Friday (September 18), the 45-year-old Real Housewives of Atlanta star revealed that she underwent an emergency partial hysterectomy back in May after doctors discovered she had 21 uterine fibroids, including one the size of a cantaloupe.
“I had symptoms but, you know, I’m 45 years old, and I’m thinking, ‘Oh, maybe I’m perimenopausal,'” Porsha – who previously detailed being diagnosed with fibroids in her late 20s – told Gayle King. “When they told me it was fibroids again I was like, ‘Oh, my God.'”
Porsha – who shares 7-year-old daughter Pilar with ex Dennis McKinley – explained that while she thought she was “done” having kids, she decided to get an impromptu exam while accompanying a friend to get her eggs frozen earlier this year.
“She started looking into doing the exam and she went silent,” Porsha recalled. “I looked at the screen and all I could see was black. I’m like, ‘Not again.'”
The doctor then sent her to a fertility specialist, who “was in shock” by what she saw, sent Porsha to get an MRI, and then “scheduled a surgery within the next two weeks.”
“It all happened so fast,” she recounted. “It really didn’t hit me until I woke up in the hospital bed.”

Porsha explained that she hopes by publicly disclosing that she had a hysterectomy, she can help lessen the stigma around the surgery and encourage more women to see their doctors.
“We have to stop diagnosing ourselves,” the Bravo star said. “There’s so many different things when it comes to a woman that you need to get checked. We need to learn how to advocate for ourselves.”
“If I were to see somebody like me sitting here with you talking about fibroids, it would’ve clicked for me to even ask for it,” Porsha added. “I had to ask my doctor to check for fibroids after something was going on that was wrong.”
Over the summer, another reality star had a hysterectomy after being diagnosed with cervical cancer.
