‘Outer Banks’ Prequel Series in Development Ahead of Netflix Show’s Final Season

Netflix is reportedly working on a prequel for hit series Outer Banks!
The news comes just one day before the show’s final season premieres on the streamer, with the project being referred to as Kildare, according to Deadline.

What is the Outer Banks prequel about?
The potential new series will reportedly take place 20 years before the events of Outer Banks, and will “explore the origins of Kildare’s deep social divide.”
Per Deadline, the prequel is based on a concept the OG show’s creators, Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke, have been toying around with for a couple of years.
The prequel only recently came together and was put into development by Netflix and it’s gaining momentum.

“We’re working on the script,” Josh Pate recently told Deadline. “We’re working hard on it with our awesome partners from Netflix, and we’re just trying to get all of it as good as it can be.”
“It really is the story of how the island split — and it’s particularly relevant in our country right now — how it split into the haves and have-nots, how the Kooks and the Pogues started,” he continued. “How did this rift start?”
Shannon Burke adds, “And seen through the stories of some of the characters you know and some new characters. But they’re 20 years before, so it’s the parents’ generation.”
Outer Banks‘ fifth and final season is set to debut on Thursday (August 20). Watch the trailer here!
Last weekend, the cast stepped out for the season five premiere and fan event. If you missed it, a podcast is also coming out to celebrate the series.
