Martin Herlihy Leaving ‘Saturday Night Live’ After 5 Seasons Ahead of Season 52

Martin Herlihy is leaving Saturday Night Live.

The comedian and writer is exiting the long-running NBC sketch comedy series after five seasons, according to multiple reports on Wednesday (September 9).

Martin first joined SNL in 2021 alongside fellow Please Don’t Destroy members Ben Marshall and John Higgins.

The comedy trio became known for their pre-recorded sketches, which featured appearances from stars including Taylor Swift, Steve Martin, Martin Short and Bad Bunny.

Ahead of Season 51, Please Don’t Destroy underwent a major shakeup. John left SNL, Ben joined the show’s cast as a featured player and Martin remained on the writing staff.

During the most recent season, Martin also appeared in several solo pre-taped sketches.

His departure comes just weeks before Saturday Night Live returns for Season 52 on September 26.

Martin isn’t the only person who won’t be returning for the upcoming season.

Chloe Fineman announced in July that she was leaving the show after seven seasons.

Bowen Yang also won’t be part of Season 52 after departing the series midway through Season 51 in December 2025.

As of Wednesday morning, no other Season 52 cast departures have been officially announced.
