The song’s title is a reference to the Hitachi Magic Wand, a massaging device that became widely known for its use as a vibrator.

In the chorus, Adéla looks back on a time when the couple couldn’t keep their hands off each other compared to their current relationship, where her partner now sleeps beside her with his clothes on. The central hook compares the way her partner used to turn her on to the way the Hitachi still does.

What Has ADÉLA Said About “Hitachi”?

Adéla opened up about the making of “Hitachi” while discussing PRIMA with Teen Vogue, revealing that she intentionally made the ballad a showcase for her voice.

“There’s a ballad on the album called ‘Hitachi’ that actually starts with a harmony stack,” she explained.

Adéla said that the harmonies serve as the song’s primary instrumentation for roughly the first half of the track before it transitions into her voice accompanied by piano and strings.

She added that she has always loved hearing pop stars take that approach to ballads.

“Those songs to me, even as a kid, like whenever a pop girl would do that, I was like, that’s my song,” she said. “‘Cause I just love hearing a voice.”

Who Wrote & Produced ADÉLA’s “Hitachi”?

Adéla co-wrote “Hitachi” with Julia Michaels, Billy Walsh, Dylan Brady and Blake Slatkin. Blake also produced the song.

“Hitachi” appears as the sixth track on PRIMA, which also includes previously released songs “KGB,” “I’m the Man,” “Boys” and “Red Bottoms.”
