CBS appears to be trying to take a page out of NBC’s playbook as they look to expand their Fire Country and Sheriff Country franchise.

A medical drama spinoff is reportedly in development and in the very early stages, and like its parent series, the new show would also be set in the fictional Northern California town of Edgewater.

Deadline is reporting that the idea is so new it doesn’t even have a writer attached yet and hasn’t been officially pitched to CBS.

But if it does move forward, the execs would be looking to introduce elements in Sheriff Country season 2, similar to how Morena Baccarin‘s character was initially introduced in a Fire Country season 2 episode.

NBC has a similar long-running franchise with One Chicago, that also consists of a firefighting drama, a medical drama, and a police drama. CBS has also had success making franchises of shows like NCIS, FBI, CSI, The Good Wife, and The Big Bang Theory.

The network was previously toying with the idea of a spinoff featuring Jared Padalecki called Fire Country: Surfside, though there hasn’t been an update on it in a long time.

Fire Country and Sheriff Country are currently airing new episodes with finales planned for May 22. CBS renewed both shows for new seasons, with Fire Country coming back for season 5 and Sheriff Country for season 2.
