Eric Roberts says he was not in the most emotionally stable place when daughter Emma Roberts was born.
The 69-year-old actor visited the podcast Really Famous with Kara Mayer Robinson and talked about the struggles he was facing around the time Emma was born in 1991.
Speaking on that time, he said he was “emotionally a wash rag,” and “not to be depended on emotionally whatsoever.”

“I was a car wreck because of many things,” he said, adding that some of his issues stemmed from “understanding the horrible negative things” about his father.
He said he realized what he’d been taught “as loyalty was absolute recklessness.”
But Eric also added that he takes “full responsibility” for the way he acted during that time of his life, which he said was a mixture of depression, addiction, and personal struggles.
Still, he thinks of his daughter’s birth in a more positive light, saying he’ll always cherish the moment when she was born and came out “screaming her head off” as he sang “Happy Birthday.”
“And she stopped screaming and tried to find my face with her little blind eyes,” he remembered.
“It was the most complete moment maybe I have ever had in my life, that something I did was recognized by a brand-new creature who had my DNA and there she was. And she already knew me. It was magic. And I’ll always have that,” he shared.
Eric previously talked about his relationship with Emma in his memoir.
