The singer’s family announced the news on Tuesday (October 6), revealing that he passed away the night before.
He was 70 years old.

“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Freddie Jackson, who went home to rest last night,” his family wrote in a statement shared on his official social media account.
The family remembered Freddie as “a kind, generous soul” who deeply loved his fans, family, friends and music.
A cause of death has not been announced.
The family said details about arrangements and ways for fans to honor Freddie will be shared at a later date.
Freddie Jackson Was One of R&B’s Biggest Stars of the 1980s
Born in Harlem on October 2, 1956, Freddie rose to fame during the 1980s and became one of the era’s most successful R&B singers. His official biography says he began singing gospel music at White Rock Baptist Church before eventually pursuing a professional music career.
His debut album, Rock Me Tonight, was released in 1985 and produced several major hits.
The title song spent six weeks at No. 1 on the R&B chart, while “You Are My Lady” also became one of his signature songs.
Other popular songs throughout his career included “Have You Ever Loved Somebody,” “Jam Tonight” and “Do Me Again.” Freddie ultimately earned 10 No. 1 songs on the R&B chart, per Apple Music.
