Sebastian Stan Explains Why He Turned Down Lead Role in ‘Vampire Diaries’

The Vampire Diaries could have looked very different!
The hit teen drama ran for eight seasons from 2009 to 2017 on The CW and starred Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder.
During his new interview on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Sebastian Stan revealed that he was originally offered Paul‘s role of Stefan Salvatore on the Vampire Diaries, but turned it down.
“They offered me Paul Wesley’s role. I’d just come off Kings,” the 44-year-old Oscar-nominated actor recalled. “I felt really burnt out from that not working out.”

If you didn’t know, Sebastian starred on Kings, the 2009 NBC series that was loosely based on the biblical story of King David. The series has canceled after one season.
Sebastian went on to admit that he didn’t think that Vampire Diaries would become a hit.
“The idea of thinking, ‘Oh, I’m just going to sign up again for something that probably isn’t going to get to the second season,'” he recalled.
“I didn’t do it,” he added, “and then the show went on to be super, super successful.”
Sebastian is no stranger to The CW as he appeared as Carter Baizen on Gossip Girl sporadically throughout the series’ run.
In another recent interview, Sebastian shared his first comments about becoming a dad!
