Lionel Richie has officially confirmed he’s returning to American Idol!

During Luke Bryan‘s star-studded Luke Bryan & Friends concert at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Thursday (September 24), Luke, Lionel, and Carrie Underwood all announced that they’re returning to the ABC singing competition show’s judging panel for the upcoming 25th season.

Luke and Carrie made the announcement live on stage while Lionel appeared video on screen amid his recent health woes.

“Hello Nashville! Look at this beautiful crowd,” Lionel began.

“Now, let me tell you something. Some of my greatest friendships have started right here in Nashville, Tennessee,” he continued. “That includes you, Carrie and Luke. Do you want to share our secret?”

“Well, I’m so surprised that I’ve been able to keep this a secret,” Luke said. “Are you ready, Carrie?”

“I’m ready,” replied Carrie.

“We’re coming back for the 25th season of American Idol, ladies and gentlemen,” Luke declared as the audience erupted in cheers.

“And of course, what would American Idol be without Mr. Ryan Seacrest? He will be back as well,” Carrie confirmed.

“So go tell someone to audition,” Luke added. “It’s going to be legendary.”

If you haven’t see, Lionel has been facing a lot of health issues in recent months. After it was reported earlier this week that he was back in the hospital, Lionel‘s rep confirmed he underwent a procedure for Atrial fibrillation.
