Judge Judy is preparing to leave the television courtroom.

Judy Sheindlin has confirmed that she is stepping away from on-camera judging as Judy Justice approaches its final episodes in October. She still has plans to work behind the scenes, including on her son Adam Levy‘s show.

Her decision comes as CBS celebrates her career with the September 22 special Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable, which aired at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and is also available to stream on Paramount+.

Why is Judge Judy retiring?

During a September 16 appearance on Good Morning America, Judy discussed the timing of her decision alongside Adam, who leads the syndicated courtroom series Adam’s Law.

She explained that she intends to keep working on creative projects, even as she moves away from her familiar role in front of the camera.

Is Judge Judy ending or Judy Justice?

The original Judge Judy finished its 25-season run in 2021. Judy then moved to Judy Justice, which launched that same year.

Now it’s time for Judy Justice to end after a four season run. Luckily for fans, there are still several episodes remaining! The finale isn’t until October 22, 2026, marking the end of her 30-year television career. Episodes are available on Prime Video.

What will Judge Judy do next?

Judy created and executive produces Adam’s Law, which premiered on September 14 and is nationally syndicated through CBS Media, and can be watched through broadcast or a television service like Fubo. Adam presides over the cases on that show.

She has also discussed developing Judyverse, an adult animated project inspired by the AI-generated “Baby Judge Judy” videos, according to an interview she did with People.

“I have a lot of other things of interest,” she told the outlet. “I don’t want to do hair and makeup anymore, but I still want my message to get out there.”

Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable will be available to stream the day after its CBS airing.
