Jon M Chu is sharing a new update on the upcoming Britney Spears biopic.

The 46-year-old award-winning Wicked and Crazy Rich Asians filmmaker is set to helm the forthcoming movie about the 44-year-old pop star.

While attending the Lucas Museam of Narrative Art opening night this past weekend, Jon gave a new update on the casting process and where the movie is currently at in production.

“She’s doing many beautiful things and I may or may have not gotten glimpses of what she’s been doing and it’s incredible,” the director told Variety of screenwriter Liz Meriweather, who is penning the script. “It’s incredible, profound, beautiful. And that’s all I can say about it. You already got me to say too much.”

As for casting, Jon has no new updates as he hasn’t even started yet!

“I get emails every day, hundreds of emails from people all around the world. Thank you for sending all your auditions,” he shared. “I am not even thinking about casting right now. We’re just trying to get the story right.”

Previously, Jon has commented on rumors of three big stars who were allegedly battling for the role.

He also said that Britney will be “very involved” in the project and teased what eras of her life and career will be covered in the movie.

What writer Liz Meriweather has said about writing the movie

Recently, Liz made her first comments about being attached to the project. She told Variety, “It’s really interesting because I haven’t written a movie in a long time, so that’s been part of the process is just trying to think in a two-hour story as opposed to like an eight-hour story, which is what I’ve been used to doing.”

She also told Vanity Fair, “I’m really at the beginning of the process of thinking about it. But I do feel like what she experienced was pretty unique for the moment that it was happening, almost a perfect storm of attention and new forms of media.”
