Is Drake's 'Choosin' Texas' Remix Out Yet? Lyrics, Meaning & How to Listen

Drake has finally debuted his remix of Ella Langley‘s massive hit “Choosin’ Texas,” but fans might be wondering why they can’t find it on Spotify or Apple Music yet.
The 39-year-old rapper teamed up with Don Toliver for a completely reworked version of the country song, which has now spent 22 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, tying the record for the longest run at No. 1 for a song in the chart’s history.
Drake debuted the full remix during his new Fear of Missing Out, aka FOMO, short film on Tuesday (September 15), weeks after he first teased his version of the song.
So, is the “Choosin’ Texas” remix actually out yet? We’ve got everything you need to know about the song, how to hear it and what Drake is singing about.
Is Drake’s ‘Choosin’ Texas’ Remix Out Yet?
Not quite.
As of Friday (September 18), Drake and Don have not released the “Choosin’ Texas” remix as an official standalone single on streaming services.
Instead, the complete song premiered as part of Drake‘s FOMO short film.
The film was initially released on YouTube on September 15 before being taken down shortly afterward. Drake announced on Thursday (September 17) that FOMO was back online, giving fans another way to hear the remix while they wait to see if it gets a traditional release.
There is currently no confirmed release date for the standalone remix.
What Is Drake’s “Choosin’ Texas” Remix About?
Ella‘s original song is told from the perspective of a woman watching a man choose another woman from Texas over her.
Drake flips that idea around.
His version puts him in the position of the man who is interested in the Texas woman, while keeping the original song’s cowgirl and Texas imagery.
“She’s from Texas, I can tell,” Drake sings during the track.
His verse also includes references to drinking, relationships and Texas culture, including former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel.
Don later joins the remix for his own verse.
While the song uses the concept behind Ella‘s hit, this isn’t simply the original recording with a new rap verse added. Drake and Don turn the country hit into a slower, R&B-leaning take on the song.
How Did Drake’s ‘Choosin’ Texas’ Remix Happen?
Drake has made his love for the original very clear.
He attended Ella‘s concert in North Little Rock, Ark., in August and was spotted enthusiastically singing along to “Choosin’ Texas” from the crowd. The two also met backstage.
Before that, Drake praised Ella‘s songwriting on social media, calling her pen “goated.”
Just days after attending her concert, Drake previewed his own version of “Choosin’ Texas” during a DJ set, immediately sparking speculation that a remix was coming.
Fans finally got the full song when FOMO premiered this week, with Don revealed as an additional collaborator.
Where Can You Listen to Drake’s ‘Choosin’ Texas’ Remix?
For now, the official way to hear the complete remix is through Drake‘s FOMO film. You can hear the song around the 40:38 mark in the short film.
The song is not currently available as a standalone track on Spotify or Apple Music, and Drake has not announced when that might change.
We’ll update when an official release date is revealed.
