Bowen Yang is making his Broadway debut TONIGHT in the hit play Oh, Mary! and we have the first photos of him in the show.

The 35-year-old former Saturday Night Live actor recently left the long-running ABC series and his first big project since then is Oh, Mary.

Bowen is stepping into the shoes of Mary Todd Lincoln, taking over the role from Meg Stalter following her final performance over the weekend.

What is Oh, Mary! about?

Oh, Mary! is “a dark comedy about a miserable, suffocated Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Unrequited yearning, alcoholism, and suppressed desires abound in this one-act play that finally examines the forgotten life and dreams of Mrs. Lincoln through the lens of an idiot.”

Bowen Yang’s statement on joining the show

“My friendship with Cole has brought me many places over the years: late-night pizzerias, cross-borough social-distance walks, a tough production of Les Misérables sung in Dutch,” Bowen said in a statement. “But being part of their deranged and profound masterpiece, Oh, Mary! is my favorite one by far. I will spend the rest of my life thanking them for the best Broadway debut a cis gay guy with limited singing ability could ask for.”

Who else is in the cast?

Bowen joins the company alongside continuing cast members Phillip James Brannon (‘Mary’s Husband’), Barrett Foa (‘Mary’s Teacher’), Bianca Leigh (‘Mary’s Chaperone’), and returning original Broadway cast member Tony Macht (‘Mary’s Husband’s Assistant’).

You can catch Bowen in the show through December 6.
