Inde Navarrette and Curry Barker were at the Toronto Film Festival last year to debut their movie Obsession, which led to its sale to Focus Features. Now, they’re back one year later to talk about the film’s success.

The 25-year-old actress and the 26-year-old writer/director stepped out for a Dialogues conversation at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival on Friday (September 11) in Toronto, Canada.

In the year since the TIFF premiere, the movie was released in theaters and grossed over $500 million at the worldwide box office, becoming one of the most successful low-budget movies of all time.

Inde Navarrette says “everything” has changed for her

Inde is getting Oscars buzz for her performance as Nikki and she has already landed some exciting new roles, including a part in the next X-Men movie.

“Everything changed for me,” she said at the event (via Variety). “I am now in rooms that I could not even imagine. I’m now pitching my own projects and am hopefully able to produce and direct my own stuff. It’s been really, really exciting because I love cinema and I love filmmaking and being a part of Midnight Madness last year lit that fire for me… My whole life has changed, and I just take it day by day.”

Obsession‘s odds at the Oscars

Kalshi predicts that Obsession has a 39% chance of getting a Best Picture nomination.

Inde has a 74% chance of getting an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, according to Kalshi.

Curry has a 29% chance of getting a Best Director nomination and a 68% chance of getting a Best Original Screenplay nomination, per Kalshi.
