Tom Bateman and Lili Reinhart are on a global press tour to promote their new rom-com The Love Hypothesis!

The co-stars walked the red carpet together at the premiere of the new movie on Wednesday (September 2) in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The Love Hypothesis, a book-to-screen adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name by Ali Hazelwood, is being released on streaming on September 23.

The book was inspired by Tom Bateman’s real-life wife?!

In an interview with Elle, Lili and Tom addressed the rumors that the book for The Love Hypothesis was inspired by Tom‘s real-life wife Daisy Ridley.

The book is said to by Reylo fan-fiction, referring to Daisy‘s Star Wars character Rey and the villain Kylo.

“People genuinely think that Tom and Daisy knew about this,” Lili told Elle. “If you knew both of them as I do—they did not know, I can tell you that with 100-percent certainty. They had other things going on in their lives. They didn’t know about the fanfiction.”

Tom added, “I said, ‘What do you mean?’ She goes, ‘Well, not really you and this book. Your wife and this book.’”

“I remember the moment the casting broke because I mentioned it to Daisy. She was away filming when I was offered the role. And I said to her, ‘Do you know that there’s this book…?’ and Daisy also goes, ‘Huh. I think someone told me there was a book written because this woman likes the characters. But no, I didn’t really [know].’ And because it’s set in a university campus and the [characters] are scientists, I was like, ‘There’s no [obvious connection].’ I can see now, looking back, where the inspiration comes from. But no, I didn’t know,” Tom said.

What is The Love Hypothesis about?

The Love Hypothesis follows Olive (Reinhart), a brilliant Ph.D. candidate focused on her future in academia. But when she realizes her best friend Ahn has fallen for her crush Jeremy, Olive impulsively kisses intimidating professor Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman) to prove she’s moved on. What begins as a desperate act of friendship spirals into a fake relationship with rules, boundaries, and a mutually beneficial agreement. When their arrangement begins to blur the lines between performance and reality, Olive is forced to test her most daunting hypothesis yet: that love might actually be worth the risk.

Who else stars in the new movie?

Along with Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman, the movie also stars Rachel Marsh as Ahn, Nicholas Duvernay as Jeremy, Jaboukie Young-White, and Arty Froushan.

When will it be released?

The Love Hypothesis will premiere on September 23rd on Prime Video.
