Tom Pelphrey Reveals He Auditioned to Play Professor X in Marvel's 'X-Men,' Jokes About 1 Concern | Just Jared - Celebrity News and Gossip

Tom Pelphrey is opening up about the major Marvel role he almost landed.
The Task and Ozark star confirmed that he was considered to play Professor Charles Xavier in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men movie, a role that would ultimately go to Christopher Abbott.
Tom discussed the audition during a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that he had one humorous concern about taking on the famously bald character.
“I’ve also got a fat head. I have a watermelon,” Tom joked when discussing the possibility of shaving his head to play Professor X.
He continued, “I was like, ‘If we’re even going to have this conversation, go into your AI image generator and look at me with a shaved head. That alone could be horrifying enough.’ I’m not kidding. The only hat I can wear is a fitted size eight. It is empirically a big fat head, and I don’t know if we want to see it shaved.”
He also described getting the opportunity to audition as an incredible experience. It would have given him his second Marvel role, as he previously played Ward Meachum across both seasons of Marvel’s Iron Fist.
Disney introduced Christopher as Professor X during its D23 showcase. The studio’s official announcements says that the untitled X-Men movie will arrive in theaters on May 5, 2028.
