Kat Dennings & Beth Behrs to Reunite on ‘Shifting Gears’ 9 Years After ‘2 Broke Girls’ Ended!

The 2 Broke Girls are reuniting!

Beth Behrs has been tapped for a guest-starring role on Kat Dennings‘ current ABC sitcom Shifting Gears, also starring Tim Allen.

According to Variety, Beth will be playing a “beautiful emergency room doctor” named Dr. Johnson who is tasked with treating Riley (Dennings) for a back injury.

Shifting Gears showrunner and executive producer Michelle Nader is also the former co-showrunner and executive producer of 2 Broke Girls, so it’s a reunion on-screen and off!

2 Broke Girls was a CBS sitcom that ran for six seasons from 2011 to 2017. It starred Kat and Beth as the titular “broke girls.” Kat played a waitress named Max who was born to a poor mom and unknown dad, while Beth‘s character Caroline was a former wealthy heiress who has lost all her money after her dad was caught up in a Ponzi scheme.

The show also starred Garrett Morris, Jonathan Kite, Matthew Moy, and Jennifer Coolidge.

Despite airing for six seasons and more than 135 episodes, CBS canceled the sitcom unexpectedly, resulting in a cliffhanger ending, so a reunion between the two actresses is a nice surprise for fans.

Shifting Gears has also staged reunions before, with Tim‘s former Home Improvement co-stars Patricia Richardson, Richard Karn, and Debbe Dunning appearing as members of a grief support group that Tim‘s character attends for the sake of a widower named Charlotte, played by his Last Man Standing co-star Nancy Travis.

In December 2025, there was also a Last Man Standing reunion during the filming of the show with a surprise appearance by Kaitlyn Dever!

Shifting Gears season 3 is expected to air in 2027.
