Netflix has released the trailer for the upcoming coming-of-age comedy movie Best of the Best!
Never Have I Ever‘s Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Disclosure Day‘s Priyanka Kedia star as childhood best friends in the movie, which was co-written by Hasan Minhaj, who also stars.
What is Best of the Best about?
Two childhood best friends, Maya (Ramakrishnan) and Anjali (Kedia), join UCLA’s competitive Bollywood-fusion dance team, only to discover that the road to winning the U.S. Championship is far more raucous and cutthroat than they ever imagined.
Who else stars in the movie?
Along with Maitreyi, Priyanka, and Hasan, Best of the Best also stars Ankur Rathee, Janina Gavankar, Chaneil Kular, Becky Alex, and Shreya Navile.
Additional casting includes Nihar Duvvuri, Nico Greetham, Amryn Khurana, Tanishq Joshi, Lilly Singh, Saara Chaudry, Sasha Bhasin, and Kavi Ramachandran.
Lena Khan directs, with Hasan Minhaj and Prashanth Venkataramanujam writing the script.
“[The movie] is a culmination of so many South Asian American kids’ experiences growing up in the United States of America,” Hasan shared in a statement with Tudum. “It’s very much a coming-of-age story of the Desi diaspora experience. For both me and Prashanth, this is a culmination of a bunch of painfully true events that we got to witness firsthand.”
When does Best of the Best premiere?
The joyful coming-of-age comedy will be released globally on Netflix on September 18th.
