Coy “Denver” Parton, Dolly Parton‘s brother, has sadly passed away.

The professional crane operator and older brother to the country superstar passed away on Thursday (July 23) at the age of 82.

How did Denver Parton die?

A cause of death was not revealed in his official obituary.

The obituary reads:

Coy “Denver” Parton, age 82 of Sevierville passed away Thursday July 23, 2026.

Denver was a crane operator building bridges for years. He was also a homestead farmer and an avid hunter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Parton; father, Lee Parton; mother, Avie Lee Owens Parton; infant brother, Larry Parton; older brother, David Parton; younger brothers, Randy and Floyd Parton; niece, Tever Parton; brothers-in-law, Carl Dean and Ray Buzzeo.

Denver is survived by his daughters, Chris Parton and Jennifer Parton; grandson, Ian Parton and fiancée Taylor York; brother, Bobby Parton; sisters, Willadeene Buzzeo, Dolly Parton, Stella Parton; Cassie Griffith (Greg), Freida Parton, Rachel George (Eric), Laura Price (David); sister-in-law, Kay Parton. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins; special nephew, Mitchell Blalock; special friends, Nancy Hurst and Kathy Farr.

There will be a private service in the future, according to the listing.

Dolly is one of 12 children, including six brothers and five sisters.

Dolly has not yet said anything on social media, but she has spoken out in the past about her unique upbringing.

“There’s a whole lot of reasons for me being the way that I am. First of all, I grew up in a family of 12 kids. I got six brothers and I got my five sisters. So, I’ve had every personality around me. And I’ve often said I’ve got some of everybody in my own immediate family, and in my family of employees. I’ve got gays, I’ve got lesbians, I’ve got trans, I’ve got alcoholics, I’ve got drug addicts. I’ve got some of everybody in my own family, so I naturally love them, accept them,” Dolly said of her many siblings, via Consequence.
