Hannah Rapp Dead, Boxer Tragically Dies After Being Struck By Car at 26 - Just Jared - Celebrity News and Gossip

Hannah Rapp was tragically killed over the weekend.

The boxer in the World Boxing Council (WBC) women’s featherweight championship was cycling on Saturday (July 18) in Brazos County, Tex., when she was struck by a vehicle and later passed away after being transported to the hospital. She was 26.

Sheriff’s office releases statement

According to a press release from the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call of a crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist.

After arriving on the scene, first responders provided emergency medical care to Hannah before taking her to the hospital, where she later passed.

The sheriff’s office investigation reports that the driver of the vehicle, who has since been identified as 31-year-old Charles Medina, passed two cyclists on FM 159, and after he passed them, stopped his vehicle, reversed and struck one of the cyclists.

He has been arrested and charged with manslaughter.

Investigators reveal what happened, and the suspect gives his testimony

According to local news outlet KBTX, investigators said the suspect was “driving east when he passed two bicyclists at what deputies described as a high rate of speed. One cyclist reportedly raised his arms and yelled toward the vehicle. Deputies allege Medina then slammed on his brakes, skidded to a stop, put the vehicle in reverse and rapidly accelerated backward, striking Rapp and knocking her into the roadway.”

KBTX also reports that Charles told deputies he heard the cyclists yell and saw them throw their hands up, thinking they were flagging him down, so he braked hard and came to a stop. He says he started backing up and did not see the cyclist until the last moment before striking her.

He says he was only going “15 mile per hour” when asked how fast he was reversing.

Witness recounts the incident to investigators

Investigators spoke to a witness, who was identified as Hannah‘s boyfriend. He told them that the driver passed them at a high rate of speed, about a foot away. He threw his hands up and yelled, then witnessed the driver stop, reverse, and accelerate before striking his girlfriend, causing her head to hit the rear window and knock her onto the roadway.

Suspect has multiple prior offenses

KBTX also notes that Charles‘ bond was set for $250,000, and this is the 13th time he has been booked in Brazos County jail since 2012. His past charges include evading arrest, reckless driving, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, speeding, escape from custody, hit and run, expired license, deadly conduct, and more.
