Magyar‘s party led with more than half the vote. He ran on campaign issues like corruption, health care and public transport.

Orban later admitted defeat, calling the result “painful” and called to congratulate his opponent on Sunday (April 12).

“I congratulated the victorious party. We are going to serve the Hungarian nation and our homeland from opposition,″ he said, via AP.

‘’Thank you, Hungary!’’ Magyar posted on X, along with sharing who has already rang to celebrate the win.

“Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has just called to congratulate us on our victory. French President @EmmanuelMacron and @ManfredWeber, President of the European People’s Party, have just called to congratulate us on our victory. Germany’s Chancellor @FriedrichMerz and NATO Secretary General @SecGenNATO have also phoned to congratulate us on our victory.”

Orban built close ties with Trump, who publicly supported him.

“My Administration stands ready to use the full Economic Might of the United States to strengthen Hungary’s Economy, as we have done for our Great Allies in the past, if Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the Hungarian People ever need it. We are excited to invest in the future Prosperity that will be generated by Orbán’s continued Leadership!” Trump wrote on TruthSocial ahead of the vote.

He also had a friendly relationship with Vladimir Putin, and sought to further expand the country’s ties with Russia.

At the same time, Donald Trump is speaking out and announcing a naval blockade amid failed Iran peace talks.
