TikTok is considering getting into the television business!

Back in November, the company filed for a U.S. trademark application for the term “TikTok Drama,” suggesting that they have been considering this move for a while. It lists “short drama series, television programs, and webisodes” as what it would be developing under that term.
Currently, TikTok is home to a lot of third-party “verticals” or serial shows split into small clips. Some of the most popular ones have been made with AI. Several that feature romance plot lines, mysteries, and more.
Companies like Netshort and YuzuDrama have been posting there to draw in viewers and get them to sign-up for their paid subscription services.
Short-form content is on the rise, which is somewhat surprising when you remember the short-lived app Quibi. Perhaps it was just a few years too early. It shut down in December 2020, with many of its shows folded into Roku.
