Andrew Lloyd Webber Says ‘Cats’ Movie Was ‘Appalling,’ So He Bought a Therapy Dog to Recover | Andrew Lloyd Webber, Broadway, Cats, Movies | Celebrity News and Gossip | Entertainment, Photos and Videos

Musical theatre composer Andrew Lloyd Webber had some harsh things to say about the Cats movie while promoting the new Broadway revival of his classic musical.

The live-action movie version of Cats featured a star-studded cast with Jennifer Hudson, Idris Elba, James Corden, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Rebel Wilson, and even Taylor Swift. The film was panned by critics and earned a 19% rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Now, the musical is back on Broadway in a reimagined with choreography from the New York City Ballroom scene. ALW promoted the new production with an interview on CBS Sunday Morning, in which he commented on the film.

“Because of the appalling Cats movie, I went out and bought myself a little Havanese puppy,” Andrew said.

Journalist Mo Rocca replied, “To recover from the trauma of the Cats movie?”

Andrew responded, “Well, yes. I mean, it’s my therapy dog on planes. I just write a note to the airline saying, you know, ‘Reason for dog on plane: Cats movie.’ And they always come back saying, ‘No doctor’s certificate required.’”

Mo asked Andrew what he didn’t like about the movie and the composer replied, “Well, is this a very, very long interview we’re doing? Because it could be a very, very long list.”
