There was almost a time when Adrian Grenier did return for The Devil Wears Prada 2.

The 49-year-old actor, who played Nate, the boyfriend of Anne Hathaway‘s Andy Sachs, in the first movie, and was notably not included in the upcoming sequel.

In a new interview, the director of the sequel, David Frankel, reveals he considered having Adrian back for a cameo.

“I had an idea about sneaking him into a cameo, and, in the end, it was just too late in our production schedule to make it happen,” David told Entertainment Weekly.

The filmmaker added that the movie was officially completed a month before it’s release, meaning they just finished a few weeks ago.

David also stayed mum about what the cameo would have entailed, and even praised Adrian‘s Starbucks commercial, where he talked about being left out of the sequel.

“No, I probably shouldn’t say. But, I think I’m thrilled that he did a Starbucks commercial, which was really funny and so self-effacing,” he shared. “I love the humility and the comedy of it!”
