Asha Bhosle has sadly passed away.

The Bollywood icon and Indian playback singer died in Mumbai following a heart attack at the age of 92.

Her son Anand confirmed the sad news, via BBC.

The acclaimed vocalist, considered one of the best in modern Indian music, recorded tens of thousands of songs to be used in films for actors to lip-sync to the pre-recorded track.

Asha was considered one of the most influential sings in Hindi cinema, and worked in the industry for over 80 years since the age of 9.

She was also nominated twice at the Grammys, and awarded the highest award in cinema in India, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, in 2000. In 2008, she received the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honor of the country.

She reportedly recorded over 12,000 songs in her career. In 2011, the Guinness Book of World Records named her the most recorded artist in music history.

More recently, she launched the online talent show Asha Ki Asha in 2020, as well as a YouTube channel.

“For me, music is my breath. I have spent my life with this thought. I have given a lot to music. I feel good I’ve come out of difficult times. Many times I felt I would not be able to survive, but I did,” she said in 2023, via New Indian Express.
