Trump’s White House Ballroom Sparks Controversy Over Origins of Key Donation Seemingly at Odds with America 1st Stance | Donald Trump, Politics | Celebrity News and Gossip | Entertainment, Photos and Videos

A donation that is reportedly being used in Donald Trump‘s White House ballroom construction project has been called into question.

The 79-year-old president’s ballroom has been a subject of controversy since it was first announced, due in part to the decision to demolish the White House’s existing East Wing to build it.

Amid complaints about the project, which is estimated to cost $400 million and was allegedly funded entirely by donations, a judge ruled in March that Trump had to halt construction as he needed permission from Congress to continue.

On Wednesday (April 8), a new report raised questions about where the president was getting the project’s steel from.

Despite the Republican’s measures to strengthen the United States steel industry since returning to office in January 2025, Trump is reportedly not using steel produced in the U.S. for the ballroom.

According to reporting by The New York Times, the steel being used was donated by a company called ArcelorMittal, which is based in Luxembourg. Trump has previously alleged that the donated steel cost approximately $37 million and described the donor — whom he didn’t name — as being a “great steel company.”

Two sources with knowledge about the project shared the news with NYT, alleging that the steel was produced in Europe.

In a comment shared with the outlet, a White House spokesperson said that the president was focused on “making the White House beautiful and giving it the glory it deserves at no cost to the taxpayer.”

They described this as “something everyone should celebrate,” adding, “Only people with a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome would find a problem with that.”

Another anonymous White House official “denied that ArcelorMittal got anything in return for its donation,” the outlet reported.

If you missed it, the president recently alluded to possible plans for after his second term in office. They’d involve another political role.
