'Avengers: Endgame' Beats 'Avatar' to Become Highest-Grossing Movie of All Time Again | Just Jared

Avengers: Endgame is officially back on top at the global box office!
The 2019 Marvel blockbuster has once again surpassed Avatar to become the highest-grossing movie of all time worldwide following the second weekend of its Avengers Endgame: Encore theatrical re-release.
According to THR, the movie’s latest run brought in another $4.4 million domestically and $14.4 million internationally.
That pushed Avengers: Endgame to a lifetime global total of approximately $2.9255 billion, just ahead of Avatar at approximately $2.9237 billion.
Avengers: Endgame & Avatar Have Traded the Record Before
Avatar originally became the highest-grossing movie in history following its 2009 release and held the record for roughly a decade.
Avengers: Endgame first passed the movie in 2019 before Avatar reclaimed the No. 1 position following a theatrical re-release in 2021.
Now, Marvel has taken the crown back again.
The latest milestone comes after Avengers: Endgame returned to theaters as Avengers Endgame: Encore on September 25.
The re-release earned an estimated $86 million worldwide during its opening weekend, significantly boosting the movie’s lifetime total.
Why Is Avengers: Endgame Back in Theaters?
The Encore presentation was released ahead of Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, which hits theaters on December 18.
The movie itself remains largely the same, but the new theatrical version includes four additional end-credits scenes featuring footage connected to Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday will feature a massive ensemble cast, including Robert Downey Jr. in his new Marvel role as Doctor Doom.
