“Tape down your edges!” That’s the advice Emayatzy Corinealdi has for BOSSIP readers amid the release of the Reasonable Doubt season four trailer, which confirms who took a bullet during that shocking shooting.
The trailer also teases a high-profile new case and fresh faces played by Meagan Good, Tank, La La Anthony and Taylor Polidore Williams—and we’ve got exclusive deets straight from the show’s leading lady.

In the trailer for the series returning Oct. 6 on Hulu, viewers learn that Jax Stewart (Corinealdi) was shot after a vengeful Monica (Brandee Evans) stormed into The Stewart Firm and pulled the trigger.
Jax is seen lying unconscious in a hospital bed as Corey Cash (Morris Chestnut) urges her to keep fighting.
“I don’t know if you can hear me or not, but I need you to fight,” Corey tells her. “Fight like I know your ass love to do.”
Lewis (McKinley Freeman) is also by Jax’s side and refuses to believe this could be the end.
“This is not the end of your story,” he says. “It can’t be.”
And while Jax’s fate hangs in the balance, leading lady Emayztzy Corinealdi told BOSSIP that the shooting will force her character to confront trauma she initially believes she can simply push past.
According to the actress, the experience forces Jax to “truly face herself, face a lot of demons and really do the work.”
Corinealdi added that the storyline reflects something she believes will feel familiar to Black women accustomed to pushing through difficult circumstances.
“This season is no different. We get to see her in a very different light,” she told BOSSIP. “We really just get to see what that kind of brokenness looks like when you’re putting on that mask and it’s all good until you hit the wall — and it’s not. Then what?”
The Stewart Firm Is Already Facing Trouble
As if the shooting wasn’t enough, there’s trouble brewing at Jax’s newly minted law firm.
“Our old firm is already trying to poach our biggest client,” Krystal Walters (Angela Grovey) says in the trailer referencing Bill Sterling (Joseph Sikora).
That client is Eric Cropper, played by new series regular Durrell “Tank” Babbs, a super-wealthy R&B artist and longtime client of Jax who finds himself at the center of a spiraling media disaster.
The high-profile case brings a number of new faces into Jax’s already complicated orbit, including Eric’s two wives.
La La Anthony plays his first wife, Melina Cropper, who’s described as “ride or die until she’s not,” while Beauty in Black’s Taylor Polidore Williams plays Brooke Cropper, his calculating second wife who’s methodically preparing for a heated divorce.
Meagan Good also joins the cast as Regina Harris, the new district attorney who’s smart, compassionate, and “nobody’s fool.”
Rutina Wesley stars as Desiree Grant, a no-nonsense entertainment journalist known for fearlessly exposing problematic high-profile figures, while DeVaughn Nixon plays Eric’s younger brother and A&R manager, Tyger Cropper.
Alexxis Lemire rounds out the new additions as Layla Love, a singer signed to Eric’s record label.
Emayatzy Corinealdi Says Jax Was Ready To Bet On Herself
Before a bullet put everything in jeopardy, Jax was entering a major new chapter by leaving her old firm behind and launching The Stewart Firm.
Emayatzy Corinealdi told BOSSIP that Jax’s new firm marks her finally putting the confidence she’s always had in herself into action.
“The thing that I love about Jax is that she always believed that, ‘I am her. I am she. I am the thing. I am the glue that’s holding this whole thing together,’” she said.
According to Corinealdi, Jax knew she was delivering results while sitting “amongst all of these older white men” without receiving the credit she deserved.
“I think she finally decided to truly bet on herself,” she told BOSSIP. “It was a long time coming.”
Having her own firm also gives Jax the opportunity to practice law on her own terms and create the kind of workplace she wants.
“She was always very unapologetic even when she was there at the firm, but now it’s even more so,” said Corinealdi. “There’s a level of ownership, of comfort that’s there, of ease.”
Emayatzy Corinealdi Says Fans Can Expect THIS In Season 4
Season four picks up immediately after Monica’s shocking shooting at the end of season three.
As previously reported, Monica blamed Jax for what happened to former child star Ozzie Edwards (Kyle Bary), whom Jax defended after he was accused of murdering his girlfriend.
Jax ultimately uncovered that Ozzie had been abused by Monica, his longtime manager, contributing to his struggles with addiction. Ozzie was found not guilty but later died from an overdose, sending Monica spiraling and ultimately leading her to The Stewart Firm with a gun.
Now, the shooting’s ripple effects are poised to shake Jax’s family, her colleagues, and the firm she worked so hard to build.
And if that sounds like a lot, Corinealdi is warning fans that it’s only the beginning.
“Tape down your edges,” she told BOSSIP with a laugh. “Tape them down. Make sure they don’t go nowhere, because it’s about to be a ride, and it’s going to be a very heart-wrenching season.”
