Charles Spencer Addresses Prince William & Prince Harry's Rift, Harry's Grief After Diana

Charles Spencer is revealing where he stands when it comes to the ongoing rift between his nephews Prince William and Prince Harry.

The 62-year-old brother of the late Princess Diana addressed the brothers’ strained relationship during a new BBC interview released on Sunday (September 20).

Charles was asked about the perception that he has taken Harry‘s side amid his estrangement from William, and he made it clear that he supports both of his nephews.

What Did Charles Spencer Say About Prince William & Prince Harry?

“I think there is a perception in the media that I am on Harry‘s side. Well, I’m on my deceased sister’s sons’ side, both of them,” Charles said.

“And if either of them wanted anything, then I’d be equally there for them. And I never get involved in one camp or the other, except as a benign figure, I hope,” he continued.

Charles acknowledged that there are “a lot of reasons on both sides” that led William and Harry to this point in their relationship.

“I hope one day it’s resolved,” he said.

“But I don’t know all,” Charles added. “I certainly don’t know what’s been done in the finer detail and so I would feel intrusive if I got more involved than to say of course a mother would want her two sons to be happy together and love each other.”

William and Harry reportedly remain estranged and have not had direct contact despite Harry recently returning to the United Kingdom with wife Meghan Markle and their children.

Charles Spencer Wonders If Harry’s Current Struggles Connect to Diana’s Passing

In a separate interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Charles was asked whether Harry‘s current difficulties with the royal family and the press could be connected to what he experienced after his mother’s passing.

“I do sometimes wonder with, um, the situation, if I can call it that, whether, uh, between Harry and William… I just wonder how much it is connected to this very sad time,” Charles said.

“He was so young and I just wonder if a gentler, more understanding treatment of his grief then might have helped him and, um, that everyone might have found a happier course ahead,” he continued.

Charles was also asked what kind of queen Diana might have been if her marriage had survived.

“I think Diana would have been a really amazing queen,” he said. “To have a sort of superstar in that role would have been very good for Britain.”

Earlier this month, a royal historian described the brothers’ relationship as having moved from a “hot war” to a “very, very cold war.”

Charles made his new comments while promoting his upcoming book, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, which will be released on Tuesday (September 22).

The book has already made headlines for several claims about Diana and the royal family. King Charles recently issued a rare response to one of the claims in the book.
