Zach Cregger‘s 2026 Resident Evil movie hit theaters this weekend, and fans flocked to the movies to catch the new hit.

The flick is based on the universe created in the video game series.

In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.

This movie is a new take on the franchise, which has other movies as well.

What happens at the end of Resident Evil (2026)?

The movie follows Bryan as he battles several obstacles to get a medical item to a local hospital.

Unfortunately, while trying to find a way on foot, he is attacked by a little girl who is slowly changing into one of the zombie creatures.

This hangs over his head for the rest of his journey, which he is determined to complete.

He eventually learns that the medical item he is carrying is theoretically a cure for the very ailment plaguing the territory!

When Bryan finally makes it to the hospital, he is – of course – faced with a few more major obstacles. After defeating an acid-vomiting mutant, and scaling the floorless skybridge, he made it to the lab and handed the cure to a tech – played by Severance‘s Zach Cherry.

Bryan is sitting down resting when he realizes he is quickly becoming one of the mutants himself. The transformation fully begins, and one by one, his new form kills the technicians as some try and actually inject him with the cure. They are unsuccessful, as Bryan is desperately trying to remain human. The injectable cure ends up falling out the 28-story window, and at that moment a National Guard helicopter appears on screen with a light shining on him.

The film then ends.

At this point, it’s assumed that Bryan fully transforms into the beast, ending his human life.

Will there be another Resident Evil movie?

Zach Cregger shared that he is open to the idea.

“There’s always ideas. You cannot not have ideas,” the director said to Variety. “With Barbarian, I’ve never entertained the idea of a sequel. But this is different. I want to talk about the ending of this movie so badly.”
