Sally Field picked up the Emmy win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Anthology Series or Movie for playing Tova Sullivan in Netflix’s Remarkably Bright Creatures.

The win was one of the notable upsets of the 2026 Emmy Awards, as stars Carey Mulligan and Sarah Pidgeon were widely predicted as the frontrunners for their performances in BEEF and Love Story. Carey attended with her close friend Rightor Doyle.

For example, Gold Derby gave Carey a 65 percent chance of winning, while Sally only had a 5 percent chance.

Sally also beat out Claire Danes and Sarah Snook, who were nommed for The Beast in Me and All Her Fault, respectively. Claire attended with her husband Hugh Dancy.

Game of Thrones stars Emilia Clarke and Emma D’Arcy presented the category.

In Remarkably Bright Creatures, Sally plays a widowed aquarium cleaner who develops an unlikely friendship with a giant Pacific octopus. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Shelby Van Pelt.

The win marks Sally‘s fourth Primetime Emmy, her first nomination since 2009 and her first Emmy Victory since Brothers & Sisters in 2007.
