Matthew Rhys has made Emmys history!

The 51-year-old actor picked up two separate acting wins at the 2026 Emmy Awards on Monday night (September 14) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Matthew became the first actor to ever win two lead acting awards in the same night!

Matthew Rhys wins two awards!

Matthew won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his work in Widow’s Bay and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for The Beast in Me.

Matthew was a sure-bet to win for Widow’s Bay, but it was a big surprise when he won for The Beast in Me as well.

The last time a man was nominated in two lead acting categories at the Emmys was in 1995 when John Goodman was nominated in the comedy category for Roseanne and the miniseries or special category for Kingfish: A Story of Huey P. Long.

No actor to get two lead acting nominations in the same year has ever won even one award that night, let alone two.

Matthew Rhys’ partner Keri Russell is also a nominee tonight

Matthew‘s partner was at the show as a nominee as well and they walked the carpet together!
