Jhené Aiko and Kendrick Lamar have reunited on a new song!

The 38-year-old R&B singer released her new album Westside Whimsy on Friday (September 11), marking her first full-length album in six years.

Among the 20 tracks on the project is “So Good,” a new collaboration with Kendrick.

The song marks the latest chapter in a musical relationship that stretches back more than 15 years, and we’re taking a closer look at the lyrics and meaning behind the track.

What Is Jhené Aiko & Kendrick Lamar’s “So Good” About?

“So Good” is a flirtatious song about two people who are intensely attracted to each other, both physically and emotionally.

Throughout the track, Jhené and Kendrick trade verses about their chemistry and desire for each other, while also presenting their connection as something deeper than a purely physical attraction.

The chorus captures that contrast by describing the other person as both “sinful, but godly.” Jhené and Kendrick also repeatedly reassure each other that their attraction is mutual, singing, “I got you, you got me.”

Elsewhere, the lyrics mix sexual attraction with spiritual imagery. One section describes their connection as “physical, spiritual, sexual,” while Kendrick refers to the pair as “the only gospel.”

The song also plays into the Los Angeles theme that runs throughout Westside Whimsy. Jhené declares “Westside everything” in her verse, while the album itself is described in a press release as a love letter to her hometown of Los Angeles.

Have Jhené Aiko & Kendrick Lamar Collaborated Before?

“So Good” isn’t the first time Jhené and Kendrick have worked together.

Their musical history dates back to 2010, when Jhené appeared on Kendrick‘s “Growing Apart (To Get Closer)” from his Overly Dedicated mixtape.

They reunited several years later for “Stay Ready (What a Life),” which appeared on Jhené‘s 2013 EP Sail Out.

More recently, both artists appeared on Playboi Carti‘s 2025 song “BACKD00R,” though “So Good” marks their first direct collaboration in more than a decade.

“So Good” was written by Jhené and Kendrick and produced by Sounwave, M-Tech, Scott Bridgeway and Jahaan Sweet.

Westside Whimsy features 20 songs and arrives six years after Jhené released her previous album, Chilombo, in 2020.

In addition to Kendrick, the new album features fellow Los Angeles artists Ab-Soul, Larry June, Tyga and OHMA.

According to a press release, the project serves as a love letter to Los Angeles and explores themes including love, vulnerability, healing and the unpredictability of life.

Westside Whimsy is available to stream now.
