‘RHONY’ Newbie Hailey Glassman Details Her Relationship with Ex Jon Gosselin, Looks Back at Being Accused of Ending His Marriage to Kate Gosselin

Real Housewives of New York City newbie Hailey Glassman is opening up about her past romance with Jon Gosselin.

If you didn’t know, 39-year-old publicist and entrepreneur previously dated the 49-year-old Jon & Kate Plus 8 star back in 2009.

During the season 16 premiere of RHONY, which aired on Tuesday (September 8), Hailey spoke about her relationship with Jon and shared how it affected her relationship with her mother.

While speaking with co-star Erin Lichy, Hailey revealed that her mother is the reason why she dated Jon. After telling Erin that she is close to her mom, Hailey noted that her mother is “very eccentric,” and she often felt responsible for her emotions.

“I love my mom so very much, but I’ve always wanted to appease her,” Hailey shared. “Like I was in charge of her well-being and her happiness, and I always had a lot of guilt if she was sad and depressed.”

“I’ll give you an example: the reason I dated Jon is because he was my mom’s friend, and she was like, ‘Oh, he’s a great guy,’” she explained, noting that her mother really wanted her to date Jon.

Hailey and Jon started dating shortly after his highly-publicized split from Kate Gosselin, with whom he shares twins Mady and Cara, now 25, and sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Collin, Aaden, Leah and Joel, now 22.

The pair were first introduced when Hailey‘s father performed a tummy tuck on Kate, now 51, and began dating after Jon temporarily moved into Hailey‘s parents’ New York City home in May 2009.

Shortly after it was revealed that Jon and Hailey were dating, tabloids went wild and accused her of breaking up Jon and Kate‘s marriage.

“There was a show, Jon & Kate Plus Eight, and what the tabloids put out there is, I’m the girl who ruined that marriage,” Hailey said. “Mistress Hailey. Home-wrecking Hailey, The Mistress That Ruined a Family of 8. It wasn’t even true.”

At the time, Hailey did an interview with E! News where she insisted that her relationship with Jon began “months” after he separated from Kate.

“I’m not some fame wh-re,” she said at the time, per TV Guide. “I’m just a 22-year-old girl who got caught in the middle of all this.”

Hailey told Erin that after she and Jon broke up, her relationship with her mother became strained.

“After the Jon thing, I wasn’t getting support from my mom, who, like, disappeared, so I kind of became a lone wolf,” she said. “It’s this friction that all mother-daughters have.”

Ahead of her RHONY debut, Hailey told Bravo Insider that she decided pursue a career in public relations after her own experience in the headlines.

“I fell into P.R. by being in the tabloids at a young age,” she said. “I needed crisis management, so I got into P.R. to help people who couldn’t defend themselves and didn’t have a voice.”
