Netflix Orders New ‘Lonesome Dove’ Series Adaptation from ‘East of Eden’ Showrunners Zoe Kazan & Jeb Stuart | Just Jared

Netflix has just announced a straight-to-series order for a new Lonesome Dove adaptation!

Hailing from Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart, who will serve as co-showrunners, the streamer won the project following a highly competitive bidding on the series adaptation of Larry McMurtry‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning western novel.

What is Lonesome Dove about?

Gus McCrae and Woodrow Call renew their spirit of adventure as they face an uncertain future, embarking on one final, perilous cattle drive from the Rio Grande to the untamed wilderness of Montana in pursuit of a dream that they have perhaps already outlived. These two former Texas Rangers lead an unforgettable cast of characters across the American west in this sweeping odyssey defined by unrequited longing, unbreakable friendship, brutal frontier justice, and an unwavering pursuit of a meaningful life.

Zoe and Jeb are reuniting after recently co-showrunning the upcoming East of Eden limited series adaptation.

We come to this material with love and respect, and can’t wait to hit the trail with Gus and Call and the rest of these beloved characters. Yee-haw,” they shared in a joint statement.

Lonesome Dove is just the latest book-to-screen adaptation for Netflix, following recent successes I Will Find You, Little House on the Prairie, His & Hers, and People We Meet on Vacation. Coming up, they also have Zoe and Jeb‘s East of Eden, Pride and Prejudice, and The Corrections.
