How Does 'The Drop' Connect to 'Snowfall'? Returning Cast, Premiere Time & What to Know | Just Jared

The Drop is a new FX show premiering this week and a spinoff of the critically-acclaimed Snowfall.
The new series debuts on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on FX and Hulu, with episodes becoming available to stream on Disney+ internationally. Featuring eight episodes, the show will be set in 1990s Los Angeles and the West Coast rap business.
Gail Bean returns as Wanda Bell and Isaiah John is back as Leon Simmons. In The Drop, Wanda is pursuing new opportunities in the music industry, while Leon is working at a free legal clinic.
How does The Drop connect to Snowfall?
The Drop is subtitled A Snowfall Saga and comes from Malcolm Spellman and the producers of the original show. It is considered a direct sequel and a spinoff series. Gail‘s character Wanda-Bell Simmons, marries Leon in the final season of Snowfall, which takes place in the late 1980s.
We’ll be getting a bit of a time skip as we move to The Drop, which centers on the characters navigating the 1990s in the aftermath of the crack epidemic. The FX synopsis says Wanda and Leon will have to “fight to reinvent themselves” amid this new era and the “rise of West Coast rap.”
For Wanda, that means putting together a group she believes can succeed as rappers and navigating the intersection of music and street politics. This creates tension with Leon, who wants to leave the streets behind and continue pursuing his goal of atonement through his free legal clinic.
“As ambition, loyalty, and survival collide, how much is everyone willing to risk in order to build something lasting in a world that threatens to pull them down?” the synopsis teases.
Which Snowfall actors return?
So far, the only Snowfall actors confirmed to return as the two leads, Gail Bean and Isaiah John. But the series will also star Asante Blackk, Simmie Sims III, and Brandon Mychal Smith.
When does The Drop premiere and where can you watch?
The Drop premieres on Tuesday night, September 8. It will air on FX first at 9 p.m. ET, followed by becoming available to stream on Hulu. International viewers will be able to watch it on Disney+.
How many episodes are there?
There will be eight episodes of the show and they are releasing weekly, so you won’t be able to stream the entire season until it finishes airing.
Should you watch Snowfall first?
Since it is a sequel series that picks up directly after Snowfall, it is advised that viewers catch up on Snowfall first before tuning into the spinoff.
