All six episodes of the Hulu comedy’s second season debuted on Thursday (September 3), with Glen returning as disgraced quarterback Russ Holliday, who secretly plays for the South Georgia Catfish disguised as Chad Powers.

So, what happens at the end of the season, and does Coach Hudson (Steve Zahn) finally discover Chad’s real identity?

SPOILER ALERT: Stop reading now if you haven’t finished Chad Powers Season 2!

What Happens in the ‘Chad Powers’ Season 2 Finale?

In the finale, Gerry (Colton Ryan) knows that Chad is really Russ and uses the secret to blackmail him.

Gerry has $200,000 in bets riding on the Catfish losing their game against Texas. In exchange for keeping Russ’ identity secret, he demands that Russ deliberately play a “historically bad game” that ensures everyone hates Chad as much as they hate Gerry.

Ricky finds a loophole in Gerry’s demands. Using her knowledge of Russ’ old Oregon game tape, she draws up trick plays that allow the Catfish to score without technically breaking Gerry’s rules.

Russ initially goes along with the plan, but eventually changes his mind and scores the winning touchdown, sending the Catfish to the College Football Playoffs.

After the game, Gerry charges toward Russ and Ricky, but he’s knocked out by one of Tricia’s (Wynn Everett) security guards. The guard reveals that Yeager Family Foods acquired the rights to the Chad Powers name. Noticing that Russ’ prosthetic slipped, he calls him “Mr. Holliday.”

It turns out Danny (Frankie A. Rodriguez) told Tricia the truth about Russ in a last-ditch effort to protect his secret. She agrees to help, but on her terms: Russ and Danny will move onto her ranch, where she can keep them safe and ensure that Russ continues living as Chad Powers.

That means the circle of people who know Chad’s true identity is growing, and his secret is becoming increasingly difficult to keep.

Who Knows Chad Powers Is Really Russ Holliday?

By the end of Season 2, Danny, Ricky, Gerry and Tricia all know Chad is really Russ. At least one member of Tricia’s security team also knows the truth. Ricky (Perry Mattfeld) first discovered Russ’ identity at the end of Season 1, forcing her to spend Season 2 helping maintain the secret.

Co-creator Michael Waldron previously explained that Ricky’s discovery would fundamentally change the story, saying that she’s now “part of the conspiracy, whether she likes it or not.”

But there’s one very important person whose knowledge remains a mystery.

Does Coach Hudson Find Out Chad Powers Is Really Russ?

Maybe! The finale intentionally leaves the answer unclear.

Near the end of the episode, Russ and Ricky kiss in the locker room. As Ricky begins peeling away part of Russ’ Chad Powers prosthetic, Coach Hudson suddenly walks through the door.

Russ turns away, and the season cuts to black without revealing exactly what Coach Hudson saw or whether he realizes Chad is actually Russ.

That cliffhanger seemingly sets up one of the biggest questions for a potential third season.

Michael and Glen previously revealed that they’ve mapped out a three-season story, with each season envisioned as covering one football season.

“There’s a beginning, middle and end. I know how I want this thing to land for audiences. Sometimes it’s just not saying, ‘Hey, we’re gonna drag this thing out until it can’t go anymore.’ We have a great mic drop for where this is all going,” Glen teased.

Will There Be a Chad Powers Season 3?

As of the Season 2 premiere, Hulu has not announced a third season of Chad Powers.

However, the finale certainly leaves the door open for more, especially with Coach Hudson potentially discovering Russ’ secret and the Catfish advancing to the College Football Playoff.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens next!
