The real Chris Hanson is sharing his thoughts on Robert Pattinson‘s new movie Primetime.

If you didn’t see, the 40-year-old actor will be playing the famed To Catch a Predator host in A24’s new thriller flick.

The logline for the film is as follows: “In 2006, To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen sets out to make television history.” It is inspired by true events.

In a new interview on Annie Elise‘s podcast, Chris, now 66, said that he refuses to judge Primetime until he’s seen it, but did share his initial thoughts on the project when he first learned about it.

“A couple months ago, they came and said, ‘Hey look, we’re doing this, we’d like you to have some sort of consideration in terms of helping us with this,’” Chris recalled, but noted that he wasn’t consulted on the film and that it was already made before “they” reached out to him.

“As a reporter, it’s sort of silly for me to talk about something that I haven’t seen yet,” he continued. “My suspicion is that they used my name because it helps in a commercial enterprise.”

As for he thoughts after watching the trailer, Chris said, “It looks dramatic. It looks very dramatic. I know [Robert Pattinson] is a popular actor, and I know the director [Lance Oppenheim] is a popular guy. I also have some questions: What’s Hollywood’s motive here?”

He noted that he “didn’t get to choose my own guy” to play him. When asked who he would have picked, Chris answered, “Years ago, I had crafted a script and thought Denis Leary would be a good guy to play me — depending on the age of it all.”

With all that being said, Chris doesn’t have time to make his own movie.

“I’m busy being the real Chris Hansen,” he added

If you didn’t know, the Dateline NBC reality TV show featured the host confronting adult men arriving at a sting house expecting to have sex with a minor, with adults impersonating the minors in online chats. The subjects were usually arrested afterward.

Primetime – which also stars Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher, Bokeem Woodbine and Phoebe Bridgers – will be released in theaters on September 25.
