'Harry Potter' TV Show Star Bel Powley 'Strongly Disagrees' with J.K. Rowling's 'Views on Gender' | Just Jared - Celebrity News and Gossip

Bel Powley will be playing the role of Harry Potter’s aunt Petunia Dursley in the upcoming HBO television adaptation of Harry Potter.
The actors who have signed on to star in the television show have been the subject of some online chatter about how they view the works amid controversy.
If you are not aware, the book series’ author, J.K. Rowling, has expressed anti-trans views repeatedly.

Bel spoke with The Telegraph in an interview published on Monday (August 10).
She shared, “I strongly disagree with J.K. Rowling’s views on gender. I think that the trans community deserve safety and dignity and respect and total acceptance.”
She then added, “But I love Harry Potter. I grew up with the books. I am from that first generation of readers and, again, I love magic and spookiness.”
Back in 2020, Harry Potter co-stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint were among the first Harry Potter cast members to speak out against Rowling‘s remarks, which were called out as transphobic.
