Glen Powell is teaming up with Oscar-winning filmmaker Richard Linklater for the third time and this will be their second time making a baseball movie!

The frequent collaborators will be working together again on an untitled Lou Gehrig movie, with Glen taking on the role of the iconic baseball player.

Richard will direct the movie with a script by Simon Rich, who penned the scripts for 2020’s An American Pickle and the upcoming Luca Guadagnino movie Artificial.

Gehrig is considered to be one of the greatest baseball players of all time, but his baseball career came to an end after he was diagnosed with the neuromuscular disease that would be later called ALS. He died at the age of 37 in 1941.

Deadline reports that the storyline for the movie is not known as of this time, but Gehrig’s first base replacement Babe Dahlgren is “expected to have an important role in the film.”

Glen and Richard first worked together on the 2016 baseball movie Everybody Wants Some and they later teamed up again for the 2024 Netflix comedy movie Hitman, which they co-wrote together.

In addition to starring in the movie, Glen will also be a producer on the project, which has been set up at Universal Pictures.
